One would be hard-pressed to find a more magnificent landscape composed of mountain (山)and water (水) than right here in Qingdao. Home to China’s largest seaside mountain, Laoshan, limitless opportunities for outdoor adventures abound.
While the pink granite peaks of Laoshan lie to the east of the city-center, the ethereal, red-roofed ‘Old-Town’ is found on the western edge of the peninsula. Nestled in rolling hills, the early 20th century Bavarian architecture and cobblestone alleyways of this former German concession are some of the most well-preserved and remarkable colonial remnants found in China.
We invite you to enjoy the many outdoor adventures and cultural resources this magnificent city has to offer, whether it be:
-hiking to the top of Laoshan (the spring water source of China’s most world-renowned beer, Tsingtao) for fresh, organic vegetables, tea and barbeque
-wind-surfing or sailing in Fushan Bay (host of the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta)
-spelunking through World-War I era tunnels carved into Fushan, a dragon-tailed mountain that also offers amazing vistas of the city-center and Yellow Sea.
-rock-climbing at Laoshan, an untapped granite gem overflowing with sport, bouldering and trad climbing potential
-historical walking tours that include Qingdao’s four colonial-era churches, Buddhist temples and the tree-lined streets of Badaguan
-fishing and camping at one of the many nearby islands that bulge upward from the Yellow Sea
-biking and bouldering along several different golden beaches
-practicing calligraphy or wrapping jiaozi (dumplings) in the ‘Old-Town’
-sipping on one of China’s finest grape wines at a vineyard where not only the taste, but the scenery, evokes the hills of Tuscany
-cozying up on an electric kang (traditional heatable, brick-bed) at a reclusive, beach-side resort that offers a stunning view of the sun-rising over the Yellow Sea
